GENERAL INFORMATION
-
Provides medication distribution and clinical pharmacy service to all inpatient departments, outpatient departments, and clinics.
-
The pharmacy computer system controls the automated medication dispensing systems throughout the hospital.
- Inpatient medication needs include: pharmacokinetic consultations, a drug monitoring program, as well as sterile admixture of IV Piggyback solutions and regular IVs & TPNs.
SERVICES
-
Drug Monitoring: The use of all medications is monitored. The hospital's computer system automatically monitors for drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, and drug allergies, high-alert medications and patient renal status.
-
IV-Admixture Service: The Pharmacy staff mixes all medications given intravenously using aseptic, sterile technique, in a laminar flow hood located in a Clean Room. All staff are tested for competency in aseptic technique. This assures a sterile IV medication admixture.
-
Nutritional Support: The Pharmacy Department consults with the physicians and dietitians in the hospital in preparing IV nutritional support, compounded and dispensed to patients needing nutritional support.
-
Renal Monitoring: Patients with poor renal function are monitored because of the inability to eliminate certain drugs from their bodies. Dosage adjustments are recommended by the pharmacist for these drugs.
-
Drug Information: provided to nurses, physicians, and patients as needed. Computerized printouts are available through the Pharmacy Department on all drugs kept in the Pharmacy.
