The medical oncology team provides support and education to you and your family during your cancer treatment and survivorship with telemedicine visits in our office with the physicians at Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center. With your oncologist’s direction, Barton Oncology can refer you for lab work, radiographic tests, diagnostics, chemotherapy infusion services, some procedures, palliative care and cancer support services to help you on your journey, close to home.
Telemedicine visits with the physicians at Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center are offered at Barton Oncology on Wednesdays.

Barton Palliative Care helps patients develop an optimal care plan catered to individual health and comfort needs. In a palliative care plan, a patient diagnosed with cancer has a personalized team of specialists to support his or her medical, social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. This multi-disciplinary team focuses on care plan development around the patient’s personal goals, incorporating the patient’s family and support system to ensure appropriate, informed medical decision making.

Balloon Kyphoplasty
A minimally invasive treatment that can repair Vertebral Compression Fractures caused by osteoporosis, cancer, or benign lesions.
Stereotactic Breast Biopsy
This biopsy is used to take tiny samples of breast tissue that can be studied under a microscope.
Mammography
Mammograms and 3D Tomosynthesis available. The 3D mammogram offers a wide-angle True Breast Tomosynthesis, improving the detection of small breast masses and lesions.
Abdominal and Pelvic Ultrasounds
A noninvasive imaging procedure used to examine organs in the abdomen and pelvis to determine the cause of a symptom and determine whether a mass is solid or a fluid-filled cyst.
Upper Gastrointestinal
This test can detect abnormalities in your upper digestive tract, including ulcers, a blockage, an abnormal growth or tumor, or other causes of abdominal pain.
Uterine Fibroid Embolization
A non-surgical treatment to remove fibroid tumors from the uterus.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
These pictures show the difference between normal and diseased tissue and can help diagnose many conditions in all parts of the body including cancer, heart and vascular disease, stroke, and joint and musculoskeletal disorders.

Barton Bone Health assists all medical/surgical specialties with diagnosis and treatment of skeletal structure threated by aging, hormone decline, chemotherapy and other secondary causes of osteoporosis.
DXA Scan is a bone density test available at Barton Bone Health & Osteoporosis. DXA utilizes minimal x-rays to determine if bones are weakened by excess porosity, also known as Osteoporosis. Very porous bones easily fracture or break from minor trips or falls. DXA testing painlessly and effortlessly provides the health care team with information invaluable for decision making regarding fracture prevention.

Barton Urology is the leader in complete urologic care and provides diagnosis, tumor removal, and treatment of certain urologic cancers.
Urology - Bladder Cancer
Bladder cancer can be diagnosed through Cystoscopy, a procedure that examines the bladder and urethra. Tumors in the bladder can be removed using a Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT). For patients who have recurring, non-invasive bladder tumors, up to 18 treatments of BCG bladder instillation can take place over a one year period.
Urology - Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer can be diagnosed using a PSA lab draw or prostate biopsy. Surveillance and monitoring protocols are implemented for patients who do not have a high recurrence risk. High recurrence risk patients are recommended for a prostatectomy procedure to remove the prostate. If the prostate cancer advances and is diagnosed as metastatic or stage 4, Lupron®, a chemotherapy drug can be administered at Barton Urology or referred to an oncologist at Tahoe Forest, UC Davis Health, or UC San Francisco Urologic Surgery and Oncology Clinic.
Urology - Kidney Cancer
Kidney cancer can be diagnosed through an exam at Barton Medical Imaging. The procedure for a partial or full removal of a kidney - a full or partial nephrectomy - is available at Barton Memorial Hospital.

The lymph nodes and lymph vessels are part of a larger circulatory system called the lymphatic system. This system can absorb excess fluid, proteins, fatty acids, and toxins causing lymphedema, scar tissue, cording, and adhesions. Lymphatic massage, also called manual lymphatic drainage, helps to gently stimulate the lymphatic system and remove foreign particles to make immunity and healing possible. A lymphatic massage session is conducted by a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT). The therapist evaluates a patient’s condition and designs a care plan around his or her needs, including a home exercise program.

Gynecological cancers, surgeries, and adjunct therapies can lead to pelvic floor dysfunction. Surgical treatment as well as chemotherapy and radiation can directly affect the pelvic floor through scar tissue restriction and swelling, fibrosis of the pelvic floor musculature and surrounding tissue. These conditions can manifest as incontinence and/or urgency of bowel and bladder, pelvic pain, pelvic organ prolapse and sexual dysfunction. Treatment might include pelvic floor muscle strengthening and stretching, relaxation, biofeedback, and myofascial release.

Barton Oncology has partnered with the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center, an affiliate of the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center, to expand oncology services for cancer patients who reside in the Tahoe basin. Using advanced technology through Barton’s Telehealth for Tahoe Program, cancer patients undergoing treatment at Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center can meet with their physicians via real-time video conferencing at Barton Oncology, allowing the patient to stay close to home.
