Biography of Keith R. Swanson, MD
|
Keith R. Swanson, MD has practiced orthopedic surgery in Lake Tahoe and the Carson Valley since 1979. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. His internship was completed in Sacramento, California at the University of California at Davis Medical Center. After duties as a general medical officer with the US Army stationed in Germany, he completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco, California and Shriners Hospital for crippled children in St. Louis, Missouri. After serving as an Army orthopedic surgeon at Reynolds Army Hospital, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he entered private practice with Tahoe Fracture Clinic in 1979. In 1996, he became one of the founders of the Lake Tahoe Orthopedic Institute. He is also a founding member of the Tahoe Sports Medicine Fellowship which continues to train orthopedic surgeons in sports medicine techniques. He currently serves as the Program Director and Designated Institutional Officiate (DIO) of the fellowship. His passion for teaching has resulted in him becoming the first director of Graduate Medical Education for Barton Health.
Dr. Swanson is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery with a subspecialty certification in sports medicine. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He also is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Swanson specializes in sports injuries to the knee. He also has a special interest in joint replacement surgery of the knee and hip. He is on the active medical staffs of Barton Memorial Hospital, Lake Tahoe Surgery Center and Carson Valley Medical Center. He is also Clinical Associate Professor at University of Nevada School of Medicine. He treats patients in Tahoe Orthopedics & Sports Medicine’s Zephyr Cove and Carson City offices. |
